THE FIRST LIQUID 'LAKE' FOUND ON MARS

The first liquid water lake found in mars;

On September 27,2012 NASA scientists announced that the curiosity rover found  direct evidence  for an ancient  steambed in Gale crater, suggesting an ancient "vigoruos flow" of water on Mars. On July 25,2018 Astronomers discovered a large body of liquid water creeping under the surface of the Martian ground mimicking a lake. This discovery could finally silence an age-old debate of whether that Red Planet still contains a source of liquid water. The 'lake' streches over  an area of around 12 miles from one end to the other and was uncovered using a radar equipment named MARSIS which is on the board the EUROPEAN AGENCY'S MARS SPACE craft. This discovery suggests that Mars was home to liquid water bodies or lakes around 3.6 billions years ago.
Alan Duffy, an associateprofessor at Swinburne University in Australia stated that this result from the study indicates that Mars has liquid water which is not limited to temporary trickles like the previous discoveries, but a continuous stream of water which provides conditions that would be exemplary of suitable conditions for life to exists for extended periods of time.
The is of further interest when noted  such that underground bodies of water are also found at the poles of Earth. These watèr bodies on Earth often house bacteria living within them in complete isolation.
This could mean that signs of life may be present in the mars equivalent liquid water itself retreated. The search for alien life on Mars has been a persistent project for scientist and astrobiologists and thus discovery could mean the discovery of the very same in the future! However it will be decades before humans will actually be able to visit the surface of Mars, therefore, this quest will only be resolved in the distant future.
